Makeup artists and SFX enthusiasts are enthusiastically invited to showcase their transformative skills in our unique Makeup/SFX Competition, one of the few standalone competitions in the nation. Judged exclusively from the neck-up, this competition is an unparalleled opportunity for artists to demonstrate their mastery in creating captivating makeup looks. 

If accepted to participate, you will receive a link that will allow you to create a bio on the event website that includes adding photos and videos as well as sharing your background as part of our marketing of the contest.

Application Deadline & Prizes

August 15. $200 in cash prizes plus trophies for 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

Rules and Guidelines

  • Makeup SFX are judged from the neck up.
  • Contestants compete for $200 in cash prizes, trophies, and medals. Winners are awarded 1st place ($100 plus trophy), 2nd place ($75 plus trophy), 3rd place ($25 plus trophy). Judge’s choices receive cool medals.
  • Contestants may only use materials and products specifically designed for the skin. Use of other products will result in disqualification.
  • Pre-registration is required. We will accept online pre-registration until August 15. No walk-on or day of registration will be allowed. Registration does not guarantee a slot in the contest.
  • Contestants will be notified about their acceptance to the contest via email, at that time a pre-judging time slot will be given.
  • There will be 25 maximum entrants.
  • All entrants must check-in for the competition when they arrive at the convention.
  • Nudity is not a costume. Costumes must be PG-13.
  • Pre-judging is mandatory. Missing pre-judging time will disqualify you for any award.
  • No use of fire or real weapons allowed. The organizers have the right to disqualify any makeup/SFX they deem not family friendly, in poor taste or dangerous.

  • Special FX Application (Out of 10 Points)
  • Overall Theme (Out of 10 Points)
  • Creativity (Out of 10 Points)
  • Use of Color (Out of 5 Points)
  • Costuming and Additional Attachments (Out of 5 Points) 
  • In case of a tie-breaker, contestants will do one last model walk judged on the model’s embodiment of the character inspiration.
